When it comes to shopping, makeup is my weakness. I’m constantly in search of the latest and greatest beauty products and often find myself buying makeup I don’t need just to test it out! My makeup addiction has helped me weed out the great from the not so great products and build an everyday makeup routine that I love. While I still buy and try out new products all the time, most of the products I’m sharing with you today have been a constant part of my beauty routine for over a year and great makeup staples.
Primer // Before applying foundation, most days I will apply either the Laura Mercier Radiance Foundation Primer or Becca Backlight Priming Filter to my face. Both of these primers add a healthy glow to my skin and make it appear more luminous. I find that the Laura Mercier primer provides a more subtle glow than the Becca primer so depending on my mood for the day, I will apply one or the other (or sometimes both for a custom look).
Foundation // I’ve tried so many different foundations (mainly because I enjoy testing out new products), and I always come back to the Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua in 12 Beige Rose. I LOVE this foundation. First of all, the color range is amazing because each shade comes in two versions: one for beige skin undertones and one for pink. I have very pale skin with pink undertones, and this foundation matches my skin tone perfectly (which is often hard to find)! Also, it is lightweight, has SPF, and is a very watery consistency that blends well into the skin. I’m a big fan of lightweight foundations and love that this product looks like you’re not wearing any foundation and just have amazing skin!
Concealer // On days where I want a little more coverage under my eyes, I will apply NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Vanilla and blend it out with a damp beauty blender. I also will use this to cover any spots or breakouts on my face. Even without setting powder, this concealer doesn’t crease and applies smoothly on top of any under eye creams.
Bronzer // As someone with very pale skin, bronzer is my best friend and keeps me looking alive! I’ve tried a bunch of bronzers, but my current favorite and only bronzer I’ve repurchased is the NARS Laguna bronzer. After foundation, I like to apply this powder in a “3-shape” on each side of my face, starting at the forehead, moving down across the cheek to the nose, and then back across the cheek and along my jawline. In the summertime, I will apply the bronzer more generously to make me feel like one of those lucky people who have skin that actually tans, and the rest of the year I will apply it lightly.
Blush // Right now I’m in the market for a new blush. In my makeup collection I have 10+ blushes, and while most of them are perfectly fine, none of them make me want to run out to the store and repurchase once I hit pan. Out of all my blushes, my top two favorites are the Dior Rosy Glow and Chanel Joues Contraste in 87 Emotion. At first glance, the Dior Rosy Glow blush is shockingly hot pink in its compact; however once applied, this blush adjusts to your skin’s chemistry to create your perfect custom shade. Make sure to apply this blush sparingly because the true color takes a few minutes to show. When I’m not wearing the Dior Blush, I like to use the Chanel Joues Contraste for a natural looking flush. This blush has a silky texture that applies smoothly and evenly.
Highlighter // For highlighter, I like to apply Laura Mercier’s Matte Radiance Baked Powder in Highlight 01 to my cheekbones and brow bones with a fan brush. This highlighter provides a subtle glow, without being glittery and is perfect for daytime wear. Also, this shade blends nicely on paler skin tones.
Eyeshadow // I’ve always been a loyal Urban Decay Naked Palette user, but this past month I decided to try out a drugstore dupe, Covergirl Nudes TruNaked Eyeshadow Palette. So far, I’ve been very impressed by the quality and colors of this palette. The shadows apply smoothly, have great pigment, and stay on all day. At around a fifth of the cost of the Urban Decay Naked Palettes, this palette is a great value, and I plan on trying out the other eyeshadows by Covergirl!
Eyebrows // BareMinerals Brow Powder in dark blonde/medium brown is the one product in my makeup routine that I’ve never changed and have been using for over fifteen years! It’s a loose powder, and I like to apply it to my brows using a brow brush for a soft natural look.
Eyeliner // Depending on my mood, I will either rock winged eyeliner, slightly smudged eyeliner, or none at all. For winged eyeliner, my go-to is Kat Von D’s Tattoo Liner in satin black. This liner is my favorite liquid eyeliner because it applies smoothly and doesn’t smudge. When I want a more classic look, I like to apply Chanel’s Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner in 20 Espresso to my upper lash line and lightly smudge it out using a brush to create less of a harsh line. On the lower outside corners, I will apply Chanel’s Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner in 919 Erable and smudge with a brush. I never line the entire lower lash line because it looks too harsh for my complexion and can make the eyes appear smaller.
Mascara // My favorite mascara I wear daily is the Bobbi Brown Smoky Eye Mascara in Black. This mascara makes my lashes look super long, thick, and not clumpy. The tube I’m using now is running out, and I desperately need to buy another (and possibly a backup too) ASAP!
Finishing Powder // As a final step to set my makeup and provide an overall finish, I’ve been loving Guerlain’s Meterorites’ Pearls in 3 Medium. This illuminating powder comes in a tin filled with tiny “pearls” in various colors that you swirl your brush in and apply to the face for a soft glow finish. I like to use this product last to blend out any harsh lines from my blush, bronzer, and highlight to create a seamless look.
