Decorating for each season can seem overwhelming, expensive, and hard to know where to start. A big concern for me was clutter. How do I update my home for the season without adding too much to the current décor already in place? The secret is to invest in year round décor staples that can be easily updated for each season or holiday. Today I wanted to share with you my favorite ways to easily transition your home décor into fall.
Fill lanterns and vases with fall items
One of my favorite ways to decorate for fall is to fill vases and lanterns with acorns, cinnamon spices, and colorful leaves. Try mixing in string lights as shown below, and reuse them again in your winter décor.
Swap out your pillow cases & throw blankets
Invest in some quality pillow inserts for your living room and even bedrooms (I like these from Pottery Barn because they keep their shape). Each season simply swap out the pillow cases to the colors and themes of the season. For autumn, I like to use non-holiday specific patterns such as leaves, but you could easily swap out the cases for both Halloween and Thanksgiving. Similarly, swap out your throw blankets for warmer materials like faux fur and faux sheepskin.
Update your decorative objects & figurines
To avoid clutter, replace your summertime decorative objects (such as seashells, starfish, and anchors) with pumpkins, leaves, and pine cones. Store your other seasonal items in boxes separated and labeled for each season. This makes it easy to redecorate and find your décor each year!
Bring the Outdoors In
Fill your vases with in season flowers such as mums, or show your love of fall foliage by using branches with colorful leaves. I tend to kill my plants (no matter how hard I try not to) so I love these fall branches because I know they will last all season (and can be used again next year)!
Put out new candles
Candles are an easy way to update your home for fall, and I’m not just talking about scents. Pillar candles come in a variety of colors, shapes (pine cones), and textures (wood), and can be easily swapped out with each season. To save money and keep your candles looking nice, never light your decorative candles in order to use them again next fall!
Create a fall DIY Centerpiece
Use acorns, pumpkins, and pine cones to create your own custom centerpiece. When assembling, choose items in varying height and colors to create dimension.
Update your mantel
Try adding a wreath and displaying your fall candles and decorative pieces on the mantel.
Decorate your front porch
Use different sized pumpkins, lanterns, flower pots, and even hay bales to show your fall festivity!
